Bringing Living Hope to India's Poorest

Hidden in scattered villages across Jharkhand, India's newest state, live the Santali tribe β€” 27 million people among the poorest of the poor. Forgotten by many, but not forgotten in heaven. We're here to change their story.

A Long Obedience in the Same Direction

The Living Hope journey in India is a story of courage, persecution, resilience and the unstoppable power of God's love reaching the unreached.

The Beginning

Hope Bringers Step Out

Moved by the desperate poverty of the Santali tribal people, a small team began visiting villages in Jharkhand β€” door to door, running children's clubs, sharing the love of Jesus with people long-forgotten by the world but never by heaven.

Bethany House

A Home for Village Children

With support from the UK, Bethany House opened as a hostel enabling 38 village children to attend school. Lovely food, clean clothes, help to learn, and the warmth of God's kingdom β€” children returned to their villages transformed, sharing the "Jesus Way" with their families.

2016 β€” A Dark Day

Persecution & Imprisonment

A two-thousand-strong mob ransacked the hostel over five hours. False charges were brought. After three and a half years, in December 2019, all charges were dropped β€” the police admitting political pressure. The team were freed to begin rebuilding their shattered lives.

2020 β€” COVID Response

Compassion in a Pandemic

When COVID hit, millions of 'untouchable' workers fled the cities for their villages. In one weekend, over a million people passed through Ranchi. The team opened refreshment stations on the highway, offering free food and water to those in desperate need.

Living Hope Centres

A New Vision Birthed

From the ashes of persecution and pandemic, Living Hope Centres were born β€” village hubs offering food banks, children's activities, women's literacy classes, and Sunday gatherings. At its height, a team of 15 workers ran five centres across the region.

Today

Seven Churches & Growing

Three original centres have blossomed into churches, joined by four more in other villages. New believers are making their own bricks to build worship halls. Lives are being transformed. God's dream for Living Hope is wild β€” "far more than we could ever imagine."

I was so moved seeing how poor these people were. Jesus touched my heart. I just had to go.

How Can You Explain This?

What's happening in those isolated villages, humanly speaking, shouldn't be happening. A group of newly set-free former idol worshippers have been galvanised by the Holy Spirit to rise up and build worship centres β€” places where they can meet with other new believers in the living hope of Jesus.

No one told them to do this. Most have never seen or been inside a church as we'd know it. All they know is that they want a place to meet together and be spiritually fed from God's Word.

"God can do anything, you know β€” far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!" β€” Ephesians 3:20 (MSG)

We dreamt of small fellowships starting in three or four homes in a few villages β€” we never saw seven churches starting and the people making their own bricks to build worship halls! Our biggest dream is being topped by God. He's not just planning to do more β€” He's already doing it.

"For the people had a mind to work…" β€” Nehemiah 4:6

Three of the original Living Hope Centres have now become established churches β€” beautiful fruit from "a long obedience in the same direction." They have been joined by four more Living Hope churches in other villages, each one building their own worship place with their own hands. Hope Bringers helps with roofing materials, window frames, doors, ceiling fans, electrics and drilling wells for fresh water.
